Strict “One Move” Rule On the Horizon

Hungary 2010

This is really difficult to swallow. Not only penalizing drivers for racing incidents, Charlie Whiting and the FIA now want to memorialize the “one move” rule as a formal offense.

Hey, blocking is part if F1. Like in Hungary last year (with Michael and Rubens), aggressive driving is what makes F1 exciting. Don’t emasculate the drivers!

Formula 1 drivers will have to adhere to a stricter definition of the “one move’ defensive rule from this weekend’s Korean Grand Prix as part of a process that is likely to put it formally into the sporting regulations next year. There is currently no official definition in the rules about what constitutes a legitimate defensive move — with the matter currently only governed by Article 16.1 of the Sporting Regulations. This provision states that drivers can be punished for causing an “incident” — which includes if he has “illegitimately prevented a legitimate overtaking manoeuvre by a driver.
