1980 Alfa Romeo Tipo 179, originally uploaded by tik_tok.

This is the 1980 Alfa Romeo Tipo 179 Formula One car, driven by Andrea de Cesaris. He was picked up by Alfa for the final events of the 1980 F1 season, replacing Vittorio Brambilla who had, in turn, been promoted to the seat after Patrick Depailler was killed testing at Hockenheim. de Cesaris’ second race in the United States, his last in this car, was a sign of things to come. He crashed on lap two, producing the absolutely fabulous nickname “Andrea de Crasheris.”
