Hamilton Edges Maldonado for Spanish GP Pole

Maldonado—Spain 12

McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton was fastest in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix on Saturday, beating a surprising Pastor Maldonado to deny the Venezuelan a first Formula One pole position. Hamilton used his final Q3 lap to top the Williams driver by more than half a second for his 3rd pole of the season. The Briton, who posted a 1m, 21.707s time, is seeking his first victory at the Circuit de Catalunya. That would make a remarkable 5th different winner this season for the first time in F1 since 1983.
