The 1985 San Marino Grand Prix — at the height of the turbo era and its fuel economy limits — is one of those historical curiosities that deserves a place in any Formula 1 fan’s mental database of races. The front runners all ran out if fuel and slowed to a halt. The final few laps saw Alain Prost in a McLaren MP4/2B take the checkered flag before stopping on the slowing-down lap and later being found to be 2kg underweight and lacking sufficient fuel for post-race scrutineering, meaning disqualification.
