The 1981 German Grand Prix at the almost-original Hockenheimring, won by Nelson Piquet.

The date was August 2, 1981. The Hockenheimring played host once again to the German Grand Prix. It was a notable race for the fact that it would be the very last time without a chicane before the Ostkurve. 1982 would see a chicane added to slow speeds down going into the Ostkurve, and it would remain that way until the final race would be held in 2001. It was a sad day when the long straights were eliminated in favor of the much shortened track that retains none of what made the Hockenheimring so special.
