Red Bull Open To Alonso?

Alonso-Webber 2013

Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner, has refused to rule out a dream pairing of Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso next year.

Mark Webber retires from Formula One at the end of the season and one of the most coveted drives in the sport was thought to have been between Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso. But when Alonso’s name came up on Sunday Horner said: “It would be interesting. At the end of the day we have to do what is right for the team and the pairing that we put together next year will have to benefit the team.”

We think after Fernando’s petulant departure from McLaren after battling with Lewis Hamilton bodes ill for the combination. But it would be very cool. Red Bull is not a Williams team from 1986-87, which let Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet battle as equals, and hard;y McLaren from 1988 with the famous Prost-Senna feud, but they have from time to time let their drivers contest positions. (Occasionally with bad results.)
